Our penultimate tree this week is one that  pays respect to one of our regions most famous of sons. A man whose love of trees most certainly played its part in the 200 plus landscape scenes he created on estates across the land.

Found and recorded at his birthplace at Kirkharle this magnificent Lime tree would have been present in Lancelot ‘Capability’ Browns lifetime and probably touched by his very own hand. It measures 600 centimetres at 1.5 meters has a covering of moss and lichen on its branches, and has epicormic shoots typical of the species on its lower trunk. An impressive veteran specimen standing at the top of the main drive and providing a special sense of the estates historical past.

Our Aim

The aim of this project is to identify, map and celebrate Ancient, veteran, heritage and notable trees across the regions of Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. By so doing we will help to conserve and protect these trees for generations to come and enable our children and indeed our children’s children to also enjoy the pleasure and benefits that they provide.
