Seaton Delaval Hall Weeping Ash

Sitting on the Front lawn of Seaton Delaval Hall is this significant weeping specimen. At an estimate age of 300 years this tree which is supported by a number of prop stakes is arguably the finest of its type in the region.

Weeping Ash was a symbol of wealth and reflected the status of the Delaval family of the day and might have been planted at a similar time to the halls construction, a design credited to Sir John Vanbrugh, who was also responsible for Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard..

Our Aim

The aim of this project is to identify, map and celebrate Ancient, veteran, heritage and notable trees across the regions of Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. By so doing we will help to conserve and protect these trees for generations to come and enable our children and indeed our children’s children to also enjoy the pleasure and benefits that they provide.
