A very special offering today and one we would love to know more about if there are any stories out there?

One we discovered when visiting the “Lady’s Well” site, this Ancient moss and lichen adorned tree straddles the wall surrounding St Marys Church in the Northumberland village of Holystone. It predates the existing church which was largely rebuilt in the late 1840s. It measures 800 cm and so is estimated as being in the region of  300 years old.

The picture attached shows the site in the late 1800s where the tree can clearly be seen towering above the buildings surrounding it.

Our Aim

The aim of this project is to identify, map and celebrate Ancient, veteran, heritage and notable trees across the regions of Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. By so doing we will help to conserve and protect these trees for generations to come and enable our children and indeed our children’s children to also enjoy the pleasure and benefits that they provide.
