It is not necessarily all about the oldest or largest tree, its impact on the environment or significance with respect to the natural world. It is also about the special and often magical connection trees can have with people. Our next tree tells one such human story.
Contacted by Linda, she told us her mother Marion’s story. ..
‘When Marion was just 15 and Arthur, Linda’s Father was 17 , Arthur carved his and Marion’s initials on the tree as a symbol of their love for one another. Marion is now 92, and Arthur sadly since passed away. Their grandchildren now live in Australia, but recently they came over to England and in memory of Arthur, and in their love for Grandma visited the tree in Northumberland park to give it a special hug to celebrate their story and that link to the past.’
This and other significant trees can be found in Northumberland Park which has recently been restored reflecting its magnificent Victorian heritage. A must visit if you get the chance.
