Today I thought it might be nice just to give a flavour of a few of our Counties special trees. Ash at Walltown Crags, Hawthorn at  Greenlee Logue, Hornbeam at Newton on the moor and oak at Hareshaw Linn, just a flavour of those we have found with so many still to discover.

These trees  survive and indeed often thrive in one of the most difficult environments trees are likely to encounter. They adapt by keeping their heads down and growing at their own unique pace. They twist and turn in special ways  to ensure a minimal target for prevailing winds to challenge whilst ensuring they provide priceless sanctuaries for their companion flora and fauna . They are indeed very special trees and they are our special trees!!

Our Aim

The aim of this project is to identify, map and celebrate Ancient, veteran, heritage and notable trees across the regions of Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland. By so doing we will help to conserve and protect these trees for generations to come and enable our children and indeed our children’s children to also enjoy the pleasure and benefits that they provide.
